It's because of this focus of street racers vs cops the name name Need For Speed Heat makes sense. It is also supposed to be going back to a NFS 2015 style of underground street racing which means that it's probably going to take place completely at night which I personally love because it's a proper street racing atmosphere. Keep in mind it's not going to be play as a cop or a racer like Hot Pursuit or Rivals, but it's you (a street racer) vs the cops. cops which is something that hasn't been a big focus really since Need For Speed: Rivals. So what do we know so far? The game is going to have a big emphasis on street racers vs. The main reason the name "Heat" it seems likely however, is based on what details for the game we have so far.
They did this for NFS Payback in their article called, "Paying It Back", so this theory wouldn't be completely out of the picture.
The reason it seems likely it will be called NFS Heat, is because of Need For Speed's most recent "Under the Hood" article called, "Turning up the Heat". This could mean a number of things like false advertising but, it also seems suspicious that it was removed so quickly from the website as if EA didn't want the name to get out there. The first reason it seems likely is because it has been removed from Gameware's website.
